Norton Insight improves the speed of the quick scans on your system without compromising the security on your computer. It identifies the trusted files on your system that do not need to be scanned, hence you have more system resources available to perform other computer activities.
Norton Insight also provides information about the processes that are running on your computer. You can view the trust level of a running process, how prevalent it is in the Norton Community, and how it affects your system’s performance.
Remember that you must be connected to the Internet to properly use this feature.
The Quick Scan Coverage Meter indicates the percentage of trusted files as compared to the total number of files that are associated with running processes. In the picture above, the green bar shows the percentage of the running files that are “Trusted”--they do not require repeated scanning-- and the blue bar shows the percentage of files that will be scanned.
The higher the “Trusted” percentage, the less time needed to complete a scan.
Click “Refresh” above the Coverage Meter to update the percentages with the latest values and refresh all the information shown in the file table.
You can select the type of files to scan by changing the position of the Scan Performance Profiles switch. As you select a profile, the coverage meter shows the coverage associated with the selected profile. Your choices are as follows:
Scans the files that do not show a trust level or have a level of “Not Trusted.” This is the default setting.
Scans the files that do not show a trust level or have a level of “Not Trusted,” and those that do not have a known digital signature. This is the most aggressive setting.
Scans all the files regardless of their trust level. This is the most conservative setting.
Norton Community Usage. Shows the level of usage of the file within the Norton Community. In general, the more popular the file, the less chance that it is malicious. This is because of the nature of malicious files. One reason is that users clean them off their systems as fast as possible. Another reason is that modern threats are extremely targeted at select audiences to make them more difficult to detect and remove.
Performance Impact. Shows the process’ impact on your system’s performance. You can use this field to identify processes that may cause system slow-downs. The higher the impact, the more resources that process requires from your PC to run.
Date Installed. Shows when the process was installed on your computer.
You can click any column to sort the table based on the values of that column.
