Reputation Scan

Overview

Reputation Scan compares the files on your computer with those about which information is submitted from the computers of millions of other Norton users. From Reputation Scan, one can learn how common or rare these files are across Norton users, whether those files are trustworthy, and their age. You can use Reputation Scan to perform a Quick Scan, Full System Scan, or Custom Scan.

Quick Scan 1/2

When you run a Reputation Quick Scan, Norton Internet Security considers the Files of Interest in processes and loaded programs. A Reputation Full System Scan considers all such Files of Interest on the system, whereas a Reputation Custom Scan lets you select the drive, file or folder that you want to scan.

Files of Interest include those that Norton Internet Security considers “known good” files relating to running processes, drivers, services, startup items, as well as browser-helper objects and Windows prefetch. They also include executable files that are listed in the Run registry keys and RunOnce registry keys.

Quick Scan 2/2

When a Reputation Quick Scan is complete, you can observe an assessment of the files related to running processes and loaded program on your computer, in comparison to those among the greater community of Norton users. If results show the Trust Level, Age, and Prevalence of these files. In the above screenshot for example, the three files in the list below are used by many Norton users.
