Download Insight checks removes malicious files before they can do any harm to your computer.
Download Insight tells you whether or not a Portable Executable file (such as *.exe, .*msi, or *.sys) downloaded is safe. After downloading a file using a supported portal, such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Chrome, you can click the “View Details” link on the Download Insight toaster that appears over the systray area in the lower right hand corner of your screen to learn more information about that file.
There are two types of applications that Download Insight works on:
With type 1 applications, you will see a Download Insight toaster notification after the file finishes downloading, before installation begins.
With type 2 applications, you will not see a Download Insight toaster until you try to launch the file. Furthermore, you will only see a toaster if Download Insight determines that the file is unsafe—you will not see the toaster for Good or Unproven files.
Here are some of the most popular programs supported by DI and their corresponding behavior type:
When Download Insight cannot make a definitive decision about the safety of a file, it tells you what it knows about the file, makes a recommendation, and asks you to decide what to do with the file. If you are confident that it is a good file, you can allow the installation of the file. If you think that the download is unsafe, you can either stop the program from running or have the file completely removed from your computer.
You can change how frequently Download Insight asks for decisions from you by giving it default decisions in the Settings page.

If the file that is being downloaded is not safe, Download Insight displays a message indicating that a threat was found and was blocked from getting into your computer.
