Storage management stack (or Stack)

The collection of software modules that lie in the access path between a logical item of data and the corresponding item of data on physical storage media. For example, the storage stack between a byte of file data and the corresponding byte of data on physical disk includes a file system, possibly a volume manager, and one or more device drivers.
