Accessing Norton Connect

Norton Connect lets you access all the data that you backed up using Norton Online Backup or Norton 360.

Norton Connect is available on Android Market. To use Norton Connect, you need to download and install Norton Connect on your Android device. When you complete installing Norton Connect, the Norton Connect icon is added to the list of applications on your device.

You can access Norton Connect from the Applications screen on your device. In addition, you can access Norton Connect from the Home screen by adding the Norton Connect icon to your Home screen. To add Norton Connect to your Home screen, tap and hold the Norton Connect icon on the Applications screen until the icon appears on the Home screen. You must have a valid Norton Account and an active subscription to either Norton Online Backup or Norton 360. You need to use your Norton Account email address and password to log on to Norton Connect.

After you have logged on to Norton Connect, the My Computers screen shows all the computers that you backed up. By default, Norton Connect remembers your email address and password after your first login. If you exit Norton Connect, you can tap the Norton Connect icon to automatically log on to the application. When you tap the Norton Connect icon, Norton Connect automatically logs you on and opens the My Computers screen. However, if you had logged off from your previous session, you need to provide the login information again.

To access Norton Connect

  1. On the Home screen or Applications screen, tap the Norton Connect icon.
  2. On the Norton Connect login screen, in the Email box, type your email address.
  3. In the Password box, type your password.
  4. Tap Login.

    Norton Connect shows all the computers that are associated with your Norton Online Backup or Norton 360 account.

Creating your Norton Account

To use Norton Connect, you must have a Norton Account and an active Norton Online Backup or Norton 360 subscription. If you do not have a Norton Account, you must sign up for a Norton Online Backup account or Norton 360 (backup enabled) account. You can use the Norton Account login information associated with your Norton Online Backup or Norton 360 account to log on to Norton Connect from your mobile device.

To create a Norton Account

  1. On your Home screen, tap the Web browser icon.
  2. In your Web browser, go to the following address:

    https://nobu.backup.com/

  3. In the page that appears, tap sign up now.
  4. In the Getting Started with Norton Online Backup page, follow the on-screen instructions and create your Norton account.

Configuring Norton Connect settings

The Settings screen lets you configure the Norton Connect settings.

To configure the Norton Connect settings

  1. On the Home screen or Applications screen, tap the Norton Connect icon.
  2. Press MENU on your device.

    Your device displays the list of menu options at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Tap the Settings tab at the bottom of the screen.
  4. On the Settings screen, select your options:

    Remember Me

    Remembers your Norton Connect login information

    When this option is turned on, Norton Connect automatically logs you on to Norton Connect every time you access the application. By default, the Remember Me option is turned on.

    Norton Account Info

    Stores the login information that you used to log on to Norton Connect

    You can use the Norton Account Info settings to validate your Norton Account user name and password.

Sharing files from online backup

Norton Connect lets you share the files from your online backup with anyone including your family and friends. When you share a file, Norton Connect uses the email application on your mobile device to send an email message to the recipients with the file download link. The email message provides a download link for the file, the file name, an auto-generated pickup code, and expiration date.

The recipients must download the shared file within 14 days from the date you share it. If your recipients do not download the shared files before the expiration date, the download link becomes invalid. Each recipient can download the shared files up to a maximum of 10 times. You can share only one file at a time.

If you know the location of the file that you want to share, you can use the Browse Files option and locate the file. If you are not sure about the location of the file, you can use the Search Files option to find the file. The search results screen shows the first 50 results. If you have more than 50 results, you must refine your search.

To share files

  1. On the Home screen or Applications screen, tap the Norton Connect icon.
  2. On the My Computers screen, from the list of computers, tap the computer that you want to access.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Tap Browse Files, navigate to the folder that contains the file, and then tap the file.

    • Tap Search Files, search and find the file, and then tap the file.

      You can search files by typing the complete file name, part of the file name, or the file extension in the search box.

  4. On the screen that appears, tap Email File.
  5. Type the email address of the recipient.
  6. Type the subject and body for your message.
  7. Tap Send.

Downloading files from online backup

Norton Connect lets you download files from your online backup. You can view all the files that you backed up using Norton Online Backup or Norton 360.

When you download a file, the file is downloaded to your device's memory card.

You can locate the file that you want to download in one of the following ways:

You can download only one file at a time. You cannot download a folder.

Once you download a file from the online backup, the file is saved in the memory card of your device. You can view the downloaded files on your device from the memory card. To view the downloaded files, press MENU on your device and then tap SD Card.

To download files from online backup

  1. On the Home screen or Applications screen, tap the Norton Connect icon.
  2. On the My Computers screen, from the list of computers, tap the computer that you want to access.
  3. Do one of the following:
    • Tap Browse Files, navigate to the folder that contains the file, and then tap the file.

    • Tap Search Files, search and find the file, and then tap the file.

      You can search files by typing the complete file name, part of the file name, or the file extension in the search box.

  4. On the screen that appears, tap Download to SD Card.

    The file is downloaded to the SD card of your mobile device.

Deleting the downloaded files

Norton Connect lets you remove the files that you downloaded from the online backup to your mobile device, at any time.

Note:

If you want to access a file that you deleted from your mobile device, you have to download the file from the online backup again.

To delete a downloaded file

  1. On the Home screen or Applications screen, tap the Norton Connect icon.
  2. Press MENU on your device.

    Your device shows the list of menu options at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Tap the SD Card tab at the bottom of the screen.

    The SD Card screen shows the list of files that you downloaded to the SD Card.

  4. Tap and hold the file that you want to delete.
  5. On the screen that appears, tap Delete.

Running a remote backup

By using Norton Connect, you can start a remote backup on any of your computers from anywhere in the world. For example, you can use Norton Connect to remotely back up your home computer while waiting to catch a flight at an airport.

To perform a remote backup on a computer using Norton Connect, ensure the following:

You cannot start remote backup on a computer that you backed up using Norton 360.

While you back up a computer, you can also search, browse, download, and send the files that are associated with that computer.

Note:

You can exit the Norton Connect application after starting the backup on a computer. The Norton Online Backup program that is installed in the computer completes the backup process.

When the backup is complete, Norton Connect displays the total number of files that were backed up along with the timestamp and date on the My Computers screen.

To run a remote backup

  1. On the Home screen or Applications screen, tap the Norton Connect icon.
  2. On the My Computers screen, from the list of computers, tap the computer that you want to access.
  3. On the screen that appears, tap Back Up Computer.

I have a Norton 360 account. What do I need to do to use Norton Connect?

To use Norton Connect, you must enable online backup for your Norton 360 account.

To enable online backup for your Norton 360 account:

  1. In your Web browser, type the following address:

    https://nobu.backup.com

  2. Click sign up now.
  3. In the Getting Started page, click Use for Free with Norton 360.
  4. In the Welcome to Norton 360 Users page, type your Norton 360 credentials, and then click LOG IN.

    Your computer appears on the Norton Online Backup home page.

  5. Launch Norton Connect on your device and log on with your Norton 360 credentials.

    Your computer appears on the My Computers screen.

How do I get started?

To get started, download the Norton Connect application to your iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad, or Android from the Apple App Store or the Android Market. Log on to the application with your Norton Account credentials associated with your Norton Online Backup or Norton 360 subscription. After you log on, you can see all the computers that are associated with your Norton Online Backup or Norton 360 account in the My Computers screen. You can now download and share the already backed up files from the computers. You can also start a remote backup on the computers that are associated with your Norton Online Backup subscription.

Can I run a backup of my computer associated with my Norton 360 Online Backup subscription using Norton Connect?

No. You can run a remote backup only on the computers that are associated with Norton Online Backup. However, you can access, download, and share files in your Norton 360 account from your mobile device.

My Norton Online Backup trial period has expired. Can I still access my data through Norton Connect?

If your Norton Online Backup trial expires, you can share and download your data using Norton Connect for 30 days from the day your product expires. But you cannot remotely back up your computers that are associated with Norton Online Backup. To continue using the service, you must upgrade to a Norton Online Backup premium account.

My Norton 360 subscription has expired. Can I still access my data through Norton Connect?

If your Norton 360 subscription expires, you can share and download your data using Norton Connect for 30 days from the day your product expires. To continue using Norton Connect, you should renew your subscription.

Can I back up photos or contacts on my phone?

Norton Connect does not back up your phone. Currently, Norton Connect lets you back up only your computers.

I have changed my Norton 360 or Norton Online Backup account password. How do I update it in Norton Connect?

You can update your Norton Connect account information from the Settings screen. Ensure that the Remember Me option is turned on. Under Norton Account Info, type your updated password, and then tap Login/Test Credentials to save your new password.
