The glossary below contains many of the terms you will find in common use throughout the Symantec Security Response website. Please refer to this list to find definitions of terms and answers to other Internet security-related questions.

bot network

A network of computers containing Trojan horses or other malicious code that work together to perform tasks that are assigned by the network's creator or controller. These tasks can be automated or assigned by means of a control channel such as Internet Relay Chat (IRC). Bot networks can be vast, involving hundreds of thousands of computers. Also called botnet or bot net.
