Norton brings AI-powered scam detection to Claude

Scams can seem relentless, showing up in texts, social posts, emails, and even as fake ads on social media. And as threat actors leverage AI, scams are only getting harder to spot. Now, Norton is bringing its AI-powered scam detection directly to Claude — helping you identify suspicious links and messages without leaving the chatbot interface you already use every day.

If you feel like you’re being targeted by online scams left and right, it’s not just you. New FTC data shows that in 2025, Americans lost billions of dollars to social media scams alone, with reported losses increasing eightfold since 2020. And, due to AI, digital scams are becoming very hard to reliably detect without specialized tools.

As users turn to AI chatbots like Claude and ChatGPT to get advice on everyday problems — like online scams — they need trusted protection that meets them where they increasingly spend their time online.

That’s why Norton is bringing its advanced scam-detection capabilities to Claude. Once enabled, the Norton x Claude connector helps you identify potential scams directly within Claude. Whenever you get a message, link, or text you’re unsure about, you can just paste it into Claude, ask if it’s safe, and get an answer that’s backed by Norton’s scam analysis and threat intelligence.

“AI assistants are becoming part of how people make decisions and evaluate information online. People are already asking AI tools whether something feels legitimate, suspicious, or safe to engage with. By bringing Norton Genie into even more AI platforms like Claude and ChatGPT, we’re making trusted Cyber Safety intelligence available directly in those moments to help people make more confident decisions in real time.” — Travis Witteveen, Head of Products and Portfolios and Gen.

Introducing the Norton x Claude connector

The Norton x Claude connector brings Genie scam detection and expert Cyber Safety guidance from Norton into Claude. Connectors are integrations that allow Claude to work with external tools and services, equipping Claude with specialized capabilities beyond its core functions.

You can find the Norton connector in Claude’s Connectors directory. Once it’s enabled, just ask Claude for Norton-powered scam analysis and Cyber Safety guidance.

  1. Enable the Norton connector in Claude: Log into Claude, open the settings (on mobile) or the Customize section of the sidebar (on desktop), go to the Connectors section, search for Norton, and enable the connector.
  2. Start a conversation about something suspicious: Ask Claude about a suspicious link, email, message, image, or online offer you want help evaluating.
  3. Review Norton-powered scam guidance: Claude will use Norton Genie scam analysis to help identify potential risks and explain why something may be unsafe.

If you prefer other AI chatbots over Claude, Norton is available in ChatGPT, too.

What the Norton x Claude connector does

With the Norton connection enabled, you can now ask Claude directly to help evaluate suspicious messages, links, emails, images, and online offers while you chat.

  • Verify whether links and websites are safe: Ask Norton to evaluate links before clicking or entering sensitive information, like passwords, payment details, or banking credentials.
  • Check suspicious messages for signs of scams: Paste in texts, social media messages, or marketplace chats to get help identifying phishing attempts, impersonation scams, and other suspicious behavior.
  • Analyze potentially risky emails: Norton can help you assess the legitimacy of emails informing you about an apparent problem with your account, unexpected payment, or urgent request for action.
  • Get guidance if you think your device may be compromised: If your computer starts behaving strangely or you suspect malware, you can ask Norton for recommended next steps and Cyber Safety guidance.
  • Ask cybersecurity questions in plain language: You can use natural conversation prompts to learn more about digital threats such as online scams, phishing, malware, and identity theft. You can also find out more about Norton security products.

Why your AI assistant alone doesn’t cut it

While AI chatbots might be able to help you reason through suspicious content on their own, identifying scams often requires more specialized intelligence than generalist AI chatbots can provide. Norton’s expertise — grounded in scam detection technology, URL reputation analysis, phishing detection, and real-world threat signals — provides insights that Claude or ChatGPT alone can’t.

Norton goes beyond simply checking whether a message looks suspicious on the surface. The connector can analyze where a link ultimately leads by following URL redirects and expanding shortened URLs. It also evaluates key trust signals like a destination website’s reputation, domain history, review sentiment, and known scam indicators to help identify cleverly concealed threats.

Why scam detection tools matter more than ever

Today, online scams are sophisticated, personalized, and hard to recognize. AI tools allow cybercriminals to create convincing phishing websites in minutes (dubbed VibeScams by threat researchers), and LLMs help them mount believable impersonation schemes designed to pressure people into sharing sensitive information or sending money.

Norton’s own research indicates that for many Americans, being targeted by scams is becoming a new normal:

  • 33% of people in the U.S. report having encountered a job scam or suspicious job posting, according to research on job scams commissioned by Norton.
  • Fake e-shops, often advertised on social media, have become a top digital threat, with threat researchers at Gen (the company behind Norton), detecting more than 1,000 new fake e-shops emerging every day on average.
  • A Norton study on tax scams found that one in three people who reported seeing one fell victim to it, costing them an average of $8,401. Fake AI tax-filing websites and apps were notable attack vectors.

As AI continues to upend the digital threat landscape, trusted scam detection tools are becoming increasingly important. With Norton scam detection integrated into Claude, users get an extra layer of guidance whenever something online doesn’t feel quite right.
